She also worked on budget and acquisitions for the U.S. Navy.
In Congress, Murphy was known as an effective legislator cutting through partisan gridlock to establish an exceptional record of legislative success. Murphy was consistently named one of the most effective and bipartisan members of Congress during her three terms (from 2017 to 2023). She led the bipartisan effort to lift the federal gun violence research ban and created the tax benefit that enabled businesses to retain and rehire workers during the pandemic. A Lutheran Church in Virginia then sponsored the family’s passage to the United States, where Murphy and her family became naturalized American citizens. Murphy was the first Vietnamese-American woman ever elected to the United States House of Representatives.

Shane Battier is a two-time NBA Champion and Former Vice President, Analytics and Basketball Development, Miami Heat
He can’t jump very high. He’s not very fast. In fact, he fails the ‘eyeball’ test in nearly every basketball category. And yet, Shane Battier has proved to be invaluable to every team he has ever suited up for. In this impassioned and inspiring presentation, Battier shares with audiences the ways in which he believes sacrifice, ownership, embracing failure, championship professionalism, and a Hunger Games mentality contribute to the powerful and significant intersection of art and commerce. A genuine team player, he knows that champions are often made when no one is looking and encourages audience members to always do what it takes for the team to succeed—whether their efforts receive recognition or not. Stats don’t always tell the story of value, and Battier is living proof.
Dubbed the “No-Stats All-Star” by author Michael Lewis, Shane Battier shows audiences how to identify and cultivate the intangibles of life that winners possess—and how sports and technology are converging to give anyone the tools to become a champion.
Where Shane Battier went, winning followed. After graduating with honors from Duke University with two Final Four appearances, one national championship, two All-American awards, and Naismith and John Wooden National Player of the Year awards, he was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2001 NBA draft. Battier went on to be part of the back-to-back 2012 and 2013 NBA championship Miami Heat team and a member of the USA Basketball national team.
Known for his exemplary character and his commitment to community service, Battier has established himself as a scholar athlete (inducted into the 2015 NCAA Academic All-American Hall of Fame), All- American, leader, champion, philanthropist, and an expert in team building. He understands that champions are often made when no one is looking, and that it is the attention to the often-unnoticed intangibles that makes the difference in building a championship culture. Profiled by best-selling author Michael Lewis, Battier is renown in basketball circles for elevating his team to championship levels through the winning plays that don’t show up in the box score. He shares with audiences how to use data and analytics to pinpoint optimal strengths and weaknesses and reach full potential. Statistics and technology combine to provide the opportunity for athletic success that goes beyond traditional approaches. A strong proponent of the intersection of athletics and technology, Battier is an annual speaker at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference and a consultant for Intel on their sports device division, focusing on application in sports. He advises multiple tech startups and is a global ambassador for the NBA.
